October 31st is a noisy night. Lots of firecrackers, a few kids running around high on sugar, and the fire truck sirens that come down the road to put out the fires started by all those hyper kids with firecrackers.
It got me to thinking about how much we can take emergency services for granted. Fire, police, and ambulance are all just another siren on the road until we really need them. It’s then that they become more than just a noisy vehicle. They are a lifeline.
Getting Complacent with Gutter Replacement
This year has been incredible as far as the weather goes. A dry summer has led up to a dry fall, and we are only now starting to see the wet weather that Vancouver BC is famous for.
We’ve stayed busy throughout the year, with homeowners taking the opportunity of dry weather to inspect their home, more than a few decided it was time to update their gutters. Once office hours were over though, the phone has been mostly quiet. Don’t get me wrong! Having a summer with no overtime is exactly the kind of thing everyone dreams about. And this year didn’t put a lot of stress on the gutter… or did it?
Most people think of the gutter as a water displacement system for their roof. Well, they should, because that’s essentially what gutters are. Water is not the only stress placed on the gutter however. Wind is a persistent force that puts pressure on some gutters every day. Though you won’t be able to tell right away if your gutter has been compromised, the wind is generally harder on the gutter than any amount of rain.
Sand, dirt, and tree leavings also tend to get picked up by the wind, and scattered onto the roof. These bits and debris will roll the same direction into the gutter, but without a good rain to wash them out, they will collect.
For those without gutter guards, this problem can be serious, as the autumn tends to bring a lot more debris from surrounding trees. Water can do serious damage to your home, and that’s why we have gutters, but if your gutters are compromised you need help FAST.
This is why Dynamic Gutters has a 24-hour emergency policy. If you have a serious gutter problem that needs fixing, you can call us at 604-210-6474 . Any hour.
Us gutter guys are sometimes a noisy bunch, but when we show up to fix a leak, we can seem almost like a lifeline.
